Great Bear Golf Club in East Stroudsburg holds a distinction no other course in the Poconos can claim: it’s the only Jack Nicklaus Signature design in the region. Opened in 1997, the 18-hole, par-71 layout stretches to 7,025 yards and was literally blasted out of rock — a testament to how seriously Nicklaus took the natural terrain. The result is a course that feels rooted in its surroundings, with no parallel fairways, dense tree lines, three lakes, streams, wetlands, and rolling hills creating a sense of seclusion on every hole.
The design rewards players at every level. Experienced golfers will find plenty of challenge in the strategic bunkering and demanding pro tees, while the layout’s overall playability keeps it enjoyable for casual rounds too. Bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens built to USGA specifications mean conditions are consistently excellent.
After your round, Jack’s Pub offers indoor and outdoor dining with views of the 18th hole. Membership options, lessons, and stay-and-play packages are also available.
